Newsletter Editor Position
The Parkes Society is seeking a new editor to publish its newsletter. The position is contractual with the editor receiving compensation for each newsletter published. A job description of the position is presented below. Interested individuals should contact the President of the Society at the address following the job description.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EDITOR OF THE PARKE SOCIETY NEWSLETTER

Purpose

The purpose of the contractual position of Parke Society Editor is to ensure that pertinent and Parke Society-related information about and concerning the Parke Society is published in the form of a Parke Society Newsletter (hereafter Newsletter) and disseminated to the membership on a frequency of not less than three times per calendar year. The editor will need to have access to email and the Newsletter will need to be published in a common, reasonably widely accepted word processing or publication format.

Duties

The Editor will enter into a contract with the Parke Society to provide the following services:
  1. The Editor will publish the Newsletter three times yearly, namely Winter, Spring and Fall, and ensure the distribution of the Newsletter to all members in good standing and to others as directed by the Parke Society's Executive Director. The dates for publication of the Winter, Spring and Fall Parke Society Newsletter issues shall be _______________, ________________ and _______________, respectively (actual dates to be negotiated).

  2. During the first year of service of the Editor to the Parke Society, for each Newsletter issue published and distributed by the dates set forth in Article 1 above, the Editor will be paid a flat fee of $200.00. Beginning with the second year, the fee paid to the Editor per issue will be $250.00. Beginning with the third year and continuing thereon, the fee paid to the Editor per issue will be $300.00.

  3. For each full week (7 days) that the publication and dissemination of the Newsletter is delayed, the Editor's Newsletter fee described in Article 2 above shall be reduced by 20 percent.

  4. Subject to the review and approval of the Parke Society's Executive Director, the Editor will contract for and in the name of the Parke Society for all services necessary to ensure the promotion and economic publishing of the Newsletter. (Where possible, arrangements shall be made to have all Newsletter publication and distribution costs billed directly to the Parke Society for payment.) In the event that some unexpected ancillary Newsletter costs arise, the Editor shall submit a detailed statement of incurred costs paid on behalf of the Parke Society to the Society's Executive Director for approval. Upon approval by the Society Executive Director, the statement will be forwarded to the Parke Society Treasurer for payment to the Editor.

  5. The Editor will publish annually the dates of the upcoming annual Convocation, and the hotel and meeting information in the issue of the Newsletter closest to the starting date of the Convocation. In other issues, the date and place of the upcoming Convocation will be published.

  6. The Editor will publish information and articles submitted by Parke Society officers, members, and others as appropriate in the Newsletter.

  7. The Editor will publish additional information and articles about genealogy and related subjects in the Newsletter in consultation with the Parke Society's Executive Director.

  8. The Editor will publish the Parke Society's Closed Circuit Newsletter insert.

  9. At the annual Convocation, the Editor will prepare and submit to the Parke Society for review and approval an annual operational budget in an amount sufficient to ensure the publication of at least three issues of the Newsletter.

  10. The Editor will prepare and submit an annual written report to the Parke Society at the annual Convocation on the activities of the Editor during the previous year.

  11. Pursuant to SR 10 of the Society's Standing Resolutions, the Editor also will need to serve as chair of the Parke Society's Publication Standing Committee of three, who will have oversight responsibility for all Society Publications.
